Endurance Charger fault finding

This guide troubleshoots faults with the Endurance Charger system.

If the charger does not behave as expected, use the checks below. Always switch off the AC supply before disconnecting a battery.

All status LEDs are flashing

The charger may have detected:

  • reverse polarity;
  • an output short circuit;
  • an incorrect charger or battery voltage; or
  • another charging fault.

Switch off the AC supply and disconnect the charger immediately. Check the battery, polarity, cables and connectors. Do not restart the charger until the cause has been identified and it is safe to continue.

The Test LED continues flashing

The Test LED normally flashes until a charging pulse raises the battery voltage above 12.5 V or two minutes have elapsed.

If a deeply discharged battery is also supplying another load, the charger may reject it incorrectly. Switch off the AC supply, disconnect all loads from the battery, then repeat the test.

The battery becomes unusually hot

Switch off the charger and disconnect the battery safely. An unusually hot battery may be damaged or have an internal short circuit. Do not continue charging it.

The charger does not reach Float

Charging time varies with temperature and the battery's age, condition, capacity and starting level of charge. A damaged or heavily aged battery may not reach the Float stage.

Inspect the battery and charging equipment. If the battery repeatedly fails to reach Float, remove it from service and follow your organisation's battery-testing and disposal procedures.

An electrical protection device trips, or there are sparks, smells or visible damage

Stop using the system immediately. Switch it off, disconnect all equipment safely and arrange inspection by a suitably qualified electrician. Do not open or attempt to repair the charger.
