How to install and connect an Endurance Charger Panel

This article outlines the steps to installing the Endurance Charger Panel in your depot.

Important: This work must be carried out by a licensed or certified electrician. The incoming supply must be protected by a 16 A overcurrent device, and the installation must comply with applicable electrical regulations.

Before installation

Confirm that:

  • the chosen location is indoors, sheltered and well ventilated;
  • the mounting surface can support up to 20 kg;
  • there is sufficient clearance for cabling, batteries and safe working;
  • the required isolation and circuit protection have been provided; and
  • all panel and isolator switches are in the Off position.

Mount the panel

  1. Use the drilling template to mark the mounting holes.
  2. Check the panel position with a level.
  3. Drill the mounting holes. Use a 12 mm masonry drill bit if you are using the supplied fixings on a suitable masonry surface.
  4. Fit fixings that are suitable for the wall construction.
  5. Use two-person handling to lift the panel into position.
  6. Secure the panel and confirm that it is level and stable.

The top of the panel should be mounted no higher than 1.8 m from the floor.

Connect the power supply

Traffic Group Signals recommends connecting the charger panel to an independently protected supply with:

  • suitable circuit isolation;
  • isolation for each charging panel;
  • 16 A overcurrent protection for the incoming supply; and
  • suitable conduit or trunking to protect the installation.

The total connected load must not exceed the maximum current rating of the isolator or supply circuit.

  1. Install the required isolation switches and protected supply in accordance with the installation design.
  2. Confirm that the main isolator, panel isolators and charger-panel switches are Off.
  3. Connect each panel to its isolator using the IEC 60309 2P+E plug and lead.
  4. Check the earth bonding and all electrical connections.
  5. Complete the required electrical inspection and testing before putting the system into use.

Commission the panel

  1. Turn the main isolator On.
  2. With the charger-panel switch still Off, connect a compatible battery using the Anderson connectors.
  3. Turn the charger-panel switch On.
  4. Check that the Test LED illuminates or flashes and that the charger begins its test sequence.
  5. Confirm that Normal mode is selected.

If all charger status LEDs flash, switch off and disconnect the system immediately. Check for reverse polarity, a short circuit, an unsuitable battery or another fault before the charger is used again.
