Managing temporary signal batteries
This article provides guidance on managing batteries
Introduction
Keeping batteries charged is an important part of keeping your temporary signals running. Our portable traffic signals are supplied with high quality, non-spillable Lucas AGM batteries. These batteries were selected due to their reliable performance, durability and safety.
When well maintained, each battery provides up to 7 days run time performance.
Battery best practice
Check batteries before deployment
Before sending equipment to site, make sure the batteries have enough charge for the planned job.
If you use TMdesk, the Depot Screen can help you see which signals are charged and ready to deploy.
Check batteries while signals are on site
TMdesk can show the battery levels of equipment that has been deployed.
The Battery Screen groups signals into sites and puts the sites needing attention first.
This means you do not have to check every signal individually to find the lowest battery.
Finding the signal that needs attention
Select the site card on the Battery Screen to find the site on the map.
Zoom in to see the individual signals.
Move your mouse over a signal to see more information, including its battery level.
This helps you identify which signal needs attention.
Plan battery changes early
Do not wait for a battery to run flat.
Use the information in TMdesk to plan battery changes before they become urgent.
Remember that one signal losing power can affect the operation of the whole site.
Keep batteries together
We recommend to keep the batteries supplied with your signals paired together. This helps ensure that the batteries degrade at the same rate, which avoids unexpected failures which can occur with mismatched batteries.
Battery safety
Always follow the battery handling, charging and safety instructions supplied by Traffic Group Signals. We recommend that batteries are charged using our Endurance Charging System, which should be installed in your depot by a certified electrician.
Do not use a battery if it appears damaged or unsafe, and do not charge in extreme temperatures.
It is recommended to charge your batteries in a well ventilated space, and to not leave battery charging unattended for long periods of time.
