When and how to use Recondition mode
This article provides guidance on using the Recondition mode with the Endurance Charger system
Recondition is an optional corrective or maintenance stage for lead-acid batteries. It may partially reverse battery degradation caused by sulphation, which can occur after inadequate charging or when a battery has remained deeply discharged.
Important restrictions
- Do not use Recondition mode as part of every charging cycle.
- Unnecessary or excessive use can shorten battery life by causing excessive gassing.
- Only use it when required and in accordance with your battery-management procedure.
- Do not use Recondition with a Li-ion battery.
Enable Recondition with Normal mode
- Select Normal charging mode.
- Press the Mode button once more.
- Confirm that both the Normal and Recondition LEDs are illuminated.
During the Recondition stage, the Recondition LED will flash.
What happens during Recondition?
The charger attempts to raise the battery to the configured recondition voltage while limiting output current to 8% of the charger's nominal current. On a 15 A charger, this is a maximum of 1.2 A.
The stage ends when:
- the battery reaches the configured recondition voltage; or
- the maximum duration of one hour is reached.
The charger may end the stage earlier if the target voltage cannot be achieved. This can happen if a load remains connected, the battery was not fully charged before Recondition began, or the battery's capacity is too large for the available charger output.
