Understanding the Asset Trail

This article explains the purpose of the asset trail and the ways it can support management of signal assets.

What is the Asset Trail?

The Asset Trail, found under the Assets screen, displays the movement pattern of your signal assets from depot to site.

What are the benefits of the Asset Trail?

The Asset Trail provides users with the following benefits:

  • track your assets from depot to site, so you can estimate when they are due to arrive
  • track your assets from site to depot, so you can manage asset utilisation and availability
  • track stolen assets journey and see where it is spotted by another asset, to aid asset recovery
  • Identify when there has been a state change of your asset, for example when a battery gets disconnected, a tracker gets forceably removed or the asset stops along its journey.

Asset Trail Icons explained

Icon Type What it means
Start Location This is the starting point of your signals on their journey, normally the depot.
End Location This is the end point of the asset journey, normally the site.
Direction of Travel The blue arrows indicate the direction of travel of the signals. If you hover over the arrow you will get details on the date, time and speed of the asset.
Direction of Travel - Out of Hours When a signal is moved outside of your working hours, this part of the journey will be highlighted in red.
Asset Stationary

When an asset is stationary for more than 5 minutes a parking icon will appear on its journey. This will indicate the start and end dates, times and total duration.

This may help identify locations where thieves park and remove trackers/batteries or store stolen signals.

Beacon

The BLE beacon icon highlights points on the map where an asset with a depleted or removed tracker is spotted by another TMdesk enabled asset. This can help identify locations where your stolen asset is spotted, to help with recovery efforts.

You do not need to own or have access to the asset that spotted your stolen signal to receive these alerts.

Alert Raised The Alert icon identifies on the Asset Trail or map where an alert was raised. This can help recovery efforts or understand what has happened along the journey of your signal assets.

Safety notice: Traffic Group Signals does not recommend that customers or their employees attempt to recover stolen signals themselves. Do not approach or confront anyone. Report the theft and any available location information to the police, then follow their advice. Recovery should be handled by the police or a suitably qualified professional recovery service.
