Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ answers some of the most common questions about using TMdesk to view and manage your Traffic Group Signals assets.
Why aren't my assets showing in TMdesk?
New or recently activated assets may take a short time to appear in TMdesk while their information is updated.
If an asset is still not showing after a reasonable amount of time:
- Check that the asset is switched on and communicating.
- Check that you have access to the correct assets within your TMdesk account.
- Refresh TMdesk and check again.
- If the asset is still missing, contact Traffic Group Signals for support.
How often should I check TMdesk?
We recommend checking TMdesk regularly as part of your normal asset management process.
For assets currently deployed on site, you may want to check more frequently. TMdesk can help you identify battery issues, alerts, asset movements and other activity that may need your attention.
How can I see how many assets I have available?
TMdesk allows you to view your assets and their current status.
Use the dashboard, search and filtering options to see which assets are available, deployed or require attention. This can help you understand your available fleet before planning your next deployment.
Why is an asset showing as offline?
An asset may show as offline if it is switched off or is temporarily unable to communicate with TMdesk.
Mobile network coverage and other communication issues can also affect how quickly information is received. When communication is restored, the asset should begin reporting again.
What does a battery warning mean?
A battery warning indicates that TMdesk has identified a potential battery issue with an asset.
Check the asset information for further details and arrange for the battery to be inspected or changed where necessary. Acting on battery warnings early can help reduce the risk of disruption on site.
Why hasn't an asset's location updated?
Asset location information relies on the unit being able to determine and communicate its position.
GPS and mobile network coverage can affect how quickly a location is updated. In areas with poor coverage, the latest position shown in TMdesk may be delayed.
Can I see where my assets are on a map?
Yes. TMdesk provides a map view to help you see the latest reported location of your assets.
Remember that the location shown is based on the latest information received from the asset and may not always represent its exact current position.
Can I search for a particular asset?
Yes. Use the search and filtering tools within TMdesk to find individual assets or groups of assets.
This is particularly useful when managing a larger fleet or when you need to investigate a particular unit.
Can I see an asset's previous activity?
Yes. TMdesk's asset trail provides a record of asset activity, helping you understand what has happened to an asset over time.
This can be useful when reviewing movements, investigating an issue or checking the history of an individual asset.
How do I know if an asset has moved?
TMdesk records location and movement information reported by compatible assets.
You can check the asset's latest position and asset trail for recent activity. Depending on the asset and your notification settings, movement may also generate an alert.
What should I do if I receive a possible theft alert?
Check the information shown in TMdesk and follow your organisation's procedure for dealing with suspected stolen equipment.
Where appropriate, report the theft to the police and provide them with the available asset and location information. Contact Traffic Group Signals if you require further assistance with the equipment.
For your safety, Traffic Group Signals does not recommend attempting to recover suspected stolen signals or equipment yourself.
Can more than one person use our TMdesk account?
Yes. TMdesk supports multiple users within an organisation.
Authorised users can manage access so that the appropriate members of your team can use TMdesk. User access should be reviewed regularly, particularly when somebody joins, leaves or changes role.
Why haven't I received an alert?
First, check your TMdesk notification settings and make sure your user and contact details are correct. Some alerts are only sent outside of your working hours, so check they are also correct.
Some alerts also depend on information being received from the asset. If you believe an alert should have been generated but wasn't, contact Traffic Group Signals for support.
Is TMdesk real-time?
TMdesk provides timely information based on data reported by your assets.
However, information may not always update instantly. Mobile network coverage, GPS availability and communication intervals can all affect when new information appears. The time TMdesk last heard from your asset is displayed on the Asset detail page and when hovering over the asset on the map.
For this reason, TMdesk information should be considered alongside your normal operational and site management procedures.
What should I do if something in TMdesk doesn't look right?
If information appears incorrect, first refresh TMdesk and allow a short period for the latest asset information to be received.
If the issue continues, contact Traffic Group Signals. Where possible, provide:
- The asset ID or number
- The site or location
- A description of the issue
- The approximate time you noticed the problem
- A screenshot, if this helps to explain the issue
Providing this information will help our team investigate the issue more quickly.
Where can I get help with TMdesk?
If you cannot find the answer you need in the TMdesk Knowledge Base, contact tmdesk@trafficgroupsignals.com for further support.
When contacting us about a particular asset, please have the asset ID available where possible.
