Using Evo1 pedestrian signals
This article provides an introduction to Evo1 pedestrian signals.
Introduction
Evo1 can be used as part of a temporary pedestrian crossing to help people move safely through or around roadworks.
What are Evo1 pedestrian signals?
Pedestrian signals provide a controlled crossing point as part of a temporary traffic signal system.
They can be used alongside Evo1 traffic signals where pedestrians need to cross the road safely during works.
Installing a pedestrian crossing
Make sure the pedestrian equipment has been installed in the correct position and according to the approved site layout and industry guidance.
We always recommend that each pedestrian crossing has two traffic signals on each approach. This makes the crossing more visible to vehicles and improves safety for pedestrians.
Check that:
- The equipment is secure and sliding feet are deployed
- The crossing route is clear and easy to navigate for vulnerable pedestrians
- Pedestrian displays can be clearly seen and are not obscured by street furniture or foliage
- Push buttons and other crossing equipment work correctly and are easily accessible
The complete signal system should be tested before the crossing is put into use.
During the job
Pedestrian equipment should be included in your normal site checks.
If you find a problem that could affect the safe use of the crossing, follow your normal safety procedures and arrange for the equipment to be checked.
